Founded by brothers Paul Van Doren, James Van Doren and their business partner Gordon Lee back in 1966, the Vans brand has been at the forefront of West Coast-inspired apparel and footwear since they opened their first store in Anaheim, California nearly 60 years ago. Originally known as the Van Doren Rubber company, it didn’t take long for Vans to become the shoe of choice for skateboarders in southern California. That legacy still exists, with Vans maintaining its strong ties to the skateboarding scene — as well as many other alternative youth cultures — to this day.
